Don't get me wrong somebody at Nortel must be doing something right but from what I'm told by my son and daughter in law, both of whom are computer programmers, their development projects are bloated poorly managed operations. Within the past 4 weeks both left Nortel because they found it impossible to do a good days work. In my son's case Nortel paid him $10,000 signing bonus to join them and then stuck him in an office two buildings away from his co-workers with no way of him to obtain proper documentation as to what he was supposed to be doing. This of course contrary to the terms he was hired under. He knew of problems and specifically stated that he would only join the company if he worked side by side with others on the project. Both my son and his wife left Nortel and took less money to get out of their work (work less) environment.

Ask yourself why Nortel is paying signing bonus, stock options and over the odds money to hire programmers.

I'm told Cisco and other companies actually expect their employees to produce.

Good luck
