I find it hard to believe even a semi conscious person would miss the huge black arrows which pointed to the candidate.

that's just silly--because the arrows were small rather than large, especially for geezers with bad eyes, but more importantly because there is abundant evidence that more than 20,000 people were confused. The 19k ballots that were disallowed were disallowed because the voters punched the wrong hole, realized their mistake immediately, and punched the right hole afterwards. The abnormally high vote for Buchanan, moreover, can only be explained by the confusion. That it was cluelessness on the part of the voters involved is indisputable, but that the outcome would have been different if each person going into the booth had voted for his/her intended choice is equally so.

This is much to do about nothing but will probably change the election results.

just the opposite--a real taint on the election (a la Chicago and Kennedy in 1960), but one that will go uncorrected because a) it was unintentional and b) there's no easy way to correct it.
