DS,
You have mischaracterized the issue. According to Missouri law, voters standing in line at closing time are allowed to vote. What the dems did was in fact get a judge to force the polls to stay open three hours late in democratic st. louis. Senator Ashcroft was correct: this was likely vote fraud, and certainly correct to be overturned.
I heard yesterday that Jeb ordered the polls to allow people in line at closing time to vote. I haven't seen this reported since, but if my estimation of the timing is correct, two interesting things result: a) he may have made this call after the democratic (eastern time) polls were closed, but while the republican (panhandle, central time) polls were open. b) he made this call just as he was being berated by his family. This smells awfully like vote fraud to me (though he might get a federal pardon...), and is certainly grounds for contention.
More to the point, though, the issue in south florida isn't just confused voters (which would be tragic, but probably not legally significant), but the fact that the ballot was in fact legally invalid. If there have ever been clear grounds for a revote (in that precinct), this must qualify. |
