Recount possible in Iowa Wed Nov 8 23:54:21 CST 2000
By Kathie Obradovich, QUAD-CITY TIMES -- November 9,
2000

DES MOINES -- While most of the nation was looking to Florida
for a final resolution of the presidential race, Iowa Republicans said
the election might not be over here, either.

State GOP officials are seriously thinking of asking for a recount of
the Iowa election results, which so far have left only a 3,100-vote
difference between Vice President Al Gore and Texas Gov. George
W. Bush, Iowa Republican Party spokeswoman Ann Dougherty
said Wednesday. The official request would have to come from the
Bush campaign, after the ballots are canvassed in each county on
Monday or Tuesday, she said.
