Keith: In a word, 'bull'; reference to the so called interim standards for 3G as you put it (i.e., GPRS). As you obviously do no know, GPRS is being deployed across over 60 networks worldwide now. Even the usually slow BT has "commercial trials" going on as i write this with the promise of full commercial services Q1 in 2001.

As for superior overlay technologies for GSM, we are tracking back on very old ground. It is not just a question about higher costs of roll-out, but also the need for totally new phones (incidentally more expensive) for the populus.

Quite amazed that the Qcom streak seen on this generally unrelated thread is almost as strong as ever. Actually i lied, I am not amazed more saddened at the usual inaccuracies.
