May 26 (San Jose Mercury News/KRTBN)--STORAGE DEVICES REPLACE OLDER,
SLOWER FLOPPIES: The floppy disk should be in a museum -- not in the latest computers.

Other computer components have advanced in a big way. Average modems and
microprocessors, a computer's central brains, are many times faster than they were only a few
years aives are cheap enough to be common. The disks are cheap enough to be given away
without too much extra thought.

Iomega has managed to make its Zip drive -- slower and smaller than a competing drive using
different technology from Syquest -- the clear popular favorite in the super-floppy arena. And
because you're far more likely to find a Zip drive in the next office or home, and blank Zips at
the local store, it's the best choice at that level if you exchange a lot of files.
