Weakness this morning due to yesterday's analyst meeting. Comments made about the new Freeway mainframe not meeting 4Q demand. This is not new news. When it was announced IBM said first customer shipments would be in December. If IBM could meet demand with only four weeks of shipments then that would be a horrible demand statement. Fact is, early shipments are always ramped such that volumes increase over the course of a few months to insure quality. Commodity supply is also a factor as manufacturing fine tunes its yields, etc. Freeway was never going to carry the quarter. Anyway, what I think is the more important issue for the next few quarters is price attrition. Will pricing firm up now in the Enterprise sector? If it does then that would have positive drag across hardware, software and services. Meanwhile, we wander here along with almost everything else I am watching.
