this is where I am really testing my evaluation process (i am surprised the market hasn't tanked).

i can easily foresee a huge mess:

half of americans are going to be very pissed off with whatever result we have from this election and justifiably claim they were robbed.

we have law suits pending about the 19,000 thrown out ballots - this decision by itself swings the election. who is going to be happy with a re-vote?

and we have the absentee ballots

and we have reason to think that in recount a Wisconsin could be appropriate if its narrow margin turns out to be "the votes that put Gore over the top."

we could even have some "clarity" - IN 10 DAYS TIME - have the electoral college act - a president inaugurated - and then have a definite lawsuit result say the president was elected ILLEGALLY. then what??

there are no relevant precedents. i am not predicting this. but i am watching for it. (this is after all a very litigious society) - i feel like some precipitating event has to occur for this NOT to happen. and i don't see where it is going to come from.

(yes - i have changed my tune - those 19,000 votes constitute a huge mass that cannot be ignored - my personal opinion is that the ballot was approved and that these are legitimately invalid ballots - end of story - but i am not convinced that opinion can withstand a legal assault)

whomever's ascent to the presidency looks murky for a very long time.
