Lucius, (sorry about previous unintended misspelling)
Not all of Intel's investments have been secretive. Just in the last year, we have been told of Radisis (RSYS) when it was 12 last June, AVID Technology (AVID) at about 9, and Rambus (RMBS) before the IPO. If one had just bought these three when Intel announced that they did, one would have done very, very well.
Intel's main motive nothwithstanding, they seem to be picking winners lately - at least the ones we know about.
Not to go into the actual numbers, I think it is incredibly significant that Intel can spend what it does on R&D, while spending awsome amounts to keep up with demand by constantly building new FABS, and still have all that cash left over to invest in these other investments - and still have a very large pile of cash left over after all that.
IMO, their PE should be much higher, therefore, until it is, I consider the stock, even at 160-165 to be selling at a big discount to it's real value.
Yaacov - If I were you, I'd cover quickly.
