All this stories about Intel servers look like a technical anecdot, IMHO. The main feature of a server is the fast responce time to external events from clients, which normally is handled via an interrupt machanism. The current interrupt routing and handling on wIntel PCs is technically ridiculus, including all these kludges like interrupt chaining and software workarounds like deferred procedure calls. However, I do realize that the life is more complicated, and I would not say that the performance of Intel's servers will never approach the desired QOS (quality of service), but they would need to compensate their handicapped architecture by climbing 500MHz CPU clock, at the expence of customers, for sure. To avoid confusion, all the customers must be exhaustively brainwashed to buy this technical "solution". Go, Intel, go.
