Daniel,

re:"W didn't get more votes than Gore, in this election, which is the only comparison that means anything."

I hate to inform you that you do not live in a democracy.

You live in a democratic republic. A union of independant states.

Before throwing out the electoral college on what you consider "sensible" reasons, ask yourself why each state has only two senators.

I understand why everyone thinks the popular vote winner should be the winner, but you are now entering into an area which is not known or probably taught in schools.

There is an important reason why there is an electoral college as there is an important reason there are only two senators for each state.

"The Federalist Papers" by Alexander Hamilton contains many insights as to why our this country's founding fathers set up our electoral system the way it did.

As I said at the beginning, the answer to why there is this "stupid" electoral college, can be found by answering the question: "Why does each state, no matter the population, only have two senators?"

Individual state's rights must be protected at all costs.
