Matridigm Big Lie #3: The Cobol maintenance market

One of the reasonable questions being asked of Matridigm management is: "Now that we're paying 1 billion for your company, which has no revenues and no earnings, we were wondering what you intend to do to make money after 1/1/2000. Assuming, of course, that the world doesn't come to an end."

The short answer is: "That's easy, we apply our 'technology' to the Cobol maintenance market."

Here are the problems:

1) No one is buying Matridigm's "technology".

2) There isn't a large Cobol maintenance market.

Point 1 is self-explanatory, and has already been admitted to by Matridigm's and Zitel's management in their last conference call. Point 2 begs the following question:

If there is supposed to be this huge Cobol maintenance market after 2000 - big enough to support the sky-high market caps of these Y2K scam companies - then why doesn't this huge market exist right now?

I think this is a reasonable question. Cobol is a dying computer lanuage from the days of clunky mainframes. Very little, if any, new development from PCs through Mainframes through C/S and Web/network apps is done in Cobol nowadays. If the business is not very large now (and declining), where will the new business come from 2 and a half years from now?
