Over the past year there have been several questions brought up about what you can and can't do with HTML in subject titles, messages, profiles & original posts. We'd like to create and publish a set of consistent rules for these four items.

Let's take message text as an example. If you could change the font color in a message to green, you should see green font anywhere this message is displayed (whether it be subject pages, search result pages, message pages, and so on).

Generally speaking, we'd like to give you as much latitude as possible without "disturbing the peace". For instance, if we allowed blinking & flashing text in subject titles, that might be a great way to get others to see your favorite subject, but a huge distraction if every subject utilized this feature. Besides aesthetics, security and bandwidth are also considerations.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this subject. Please limit discussion to this thread so the Silicon Investor team does not miss any of your insight.

The four items we're primarily concerned with are:
1) Message text
2) Original post (the post that begins a subject)
3) Profile pages
4) Subject titles
