GORE TEAM CALLS FOR LEGAL REMEDIES, ATTACKS BUSH
William Daley and Warren Christopher, speaking for Al Gore in a 2 pm. ET CNN interview in Florida, called for hand counts of the ballots in four counties, Dade, Palm Beach, Volusia, and Brower. Christopher said that errors in the election process were "serious and substantial" and called for a resolution in the Florida courts. A lawyer familiar with Florida election laws claimed that the ballot in Palm Beach County was both "confusing" and "illegal." Daley began the interview by saying that the people should decide upon the next President, not those pointing to the kinds of technicalities former Sec. of State Baker noted in a CNN interview two hours previously. He also blasted George W. Bush for taking it upon himself to declare victory in an interview in Texas yesterday. Daley repeated that it's the voters, not the candidate, who will decide upon the next President of the United States. He said such statements bring confusion, not clarity, to the nation's process of determination. |
