Gore campaign calls for recanvass Thursday, 9 November 2000 15:16 (ET) Gore campaign calls for recanvass TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- William Daley, campaign manager for Al Gore, called for a hand count of ballots on Thursday in Palm Beach, Volusia, Miami-Dade and Broward Counties in Florida, a total of 1.4 million votes. He said 20,000 voters have been disenfranchised by a confusing ballot in Palm Beach County. At issue was the ballot that was apparently so confusing that many people voted for Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan when they intended to vote for Vice President Gore. "More than 20,000 voters who thought they voted for Al Gore voted for Pat Buchanan," Daley said. "We believe this requires the full attention of the courts in Florida and concerned citizens around the country." vny.com
