I've noticed the same reportage of number of trades. I thought a possible explanation was to be found in the way the volume is counted. But that leaves unanswered questions too.

At times I have found a quote of some total volume and then a little
later at the same price a total volume that was lower. Can trades be cancelled? But I think the system is 'accurate' after a little time is allowed for selfcorrection!
