I don't actually know of any comparable case. To me, the issue seems rather straightforward (although the legal pundits on the tv tend to disagree). Suppose that there were a legally invalid ballot in a local bond issue, say, something with little great importance. For instance, suppose that rather than putting "yes" on the first line, and "no" on the second line, they put "yes" on both lines. Is there any doubt that they would just have a re-vote? Not to me.

IMO, Bush is currently up in the tally by about 200 votes, but everything is trending in Gore's direction. Palm Beach is also recounting by hand, as many absentee ballots marked a ballot by hand, but not very darkly, so the machines couldn't read them (although apparently putting them through the machines in fact removed some of the graphite!).
