Phoenix,

Analysts typically deal with the IR person and the CFO. Access to the CEO is unusual with the established companies unless some special relationship exists. Microsoft used to tell analysts not to expect one-on-one meetings with Bill Gates and not to even make such a request.

Analysts buy third-party industry research, have consultants on retainers, conduct surveys, etc., but it doesn't mean they will interpret the data to correctly forecast stock price movements, but it may not hurt. As GV says, the influence of analysts is usually overstated. They are overly blamed or credited with what happens to a stock when often they are reacting to a move that has already happened.
