ALAMEDA, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Wind River Systems Inc. (WIND) said NASA installed Wind River's VxWorks operating system software in the Mars Pathfinder space project, scheduled to land on Mars on July 4. Terms weren't disclosed. In a press release Tuesday, Wind River said VxWorks controlls the Pathfiders's flight, descent, altitude and spin. The software also allows the Pathfinder to communicate with Earth. The company said the Mars Pathfinder, which will conduct studies and take photographs, is part of the NASA Discovery Program to develop ''better, faster and cheaper'' technology.
