I am sure from your post that you won't believe this but the people of Palm Beach started this action, not Al Gore or his staff. Complaints about the ballot were so rampant, that the secretary of state's office issued a memo at 5pm Florida time instructing election officials to aid Palm Beach voters with respect to the ballot. That memo will be introduced in the state court action as evidence of the massive confusion. You can pick and chose what facts you want to hear. That's fine. A judge will hear this and we will all have to live with it. But, in the end, 50% of voters are going to feel robbed and that is ashame in America. As for Missouri, Ashcroft was a class act. No doubt about it. As for the polling places staying open, I agreed that they should have stayed open given the voter registration problems the state was having (not surprisingly, in the heavily populated areas-you do know about the registration problems don't you?). But, the judge who ruled that way should have kept all polling places open. Having polling places close so early in a country that does not mandate a day off for voting is just plain unfair to working people (of all colors).
