I suspect the Republican voters were not presented with this same decision requiring scenario which I think is unfair.

I'm not suggesting that it's not unfair. A lot in life is unfair. However, when presented with an unfair situation we should still hold ourselves accountable for the way we ultimately deal with it. Coming to the conclusion that the voter should not be held accountable for his/her actions in that unfair situation is wrong in my opinion.
