How true Roger...Compromise is always required... Funny thing...while I was out reading and researching tonight, I looked up some quotes from the Founding Fathers --including Benjamin Franklin coming out of the Ratification of the US Constitution meeting...fielding questions, one of which was: "Do we have a monarchy or a republic?"....to which he replied: "A Republic, if we can keep it."
Also saw tonight one www.netscape.com, the question: Which source do you prefer to use to get info about the election (or something similar)....responses could be: TV, newspapers, radio, (can't remember the other two)...BUT they didn't put Internet SI Message Boards (or anything similar.)
This is the most interesting medium. Collective Thought. Each person sharing their thoughts and talents and ideas, gathering of various other opinions from the mass media, and all in all, providing all of us an up-to-date look at history in the making!
Here's another good source for the Constitution:http://www.calvin.edu/academic/pols/201/const.htm
A constitution is the nation's basic law. It creates political institutions, allocates power within government, and often provides guarantees of freedom and liberty to citizens. The United States Constitution, originally drafted in 1787 and formally amended a remarkably few times since then, is both a window into the political philosophy of the founding era, and into the governmental and personal principles that guide American life today. |
