OT, Re:HP11/15 >
Interesting, my parents bought my HP calculator as a "present" back in 1985 or 1986, in a speculative move about my engineering future. A few years thereafter, HP introduced the 28C, which I tended (as well as other HP11/15C owners) to look down upon as Nouveau Riche LOL!
Why people seem to like this rugged, minimalist number crunching machine, I don't know. But looking back to my consumerist history I take note that my faithful companion has outlasted many temporary love affairs: ZX-81, TI99, Commodore 64 and Sharp Something. They all suffered a premature departure from my product space.
There was a torrid relationship with the Commodore64, but shortly before 10th grade it was unceremoniously gutted, vivisected and left for dead. To this day, I have no idea where its remains are festering. The TI-99 fell in the enterprising hands of my brother, 6 years old at the time: need I say more ? Sharp Something PDA was supposed to be something of an early PDA/Calculator and mini computer. It was a failure in all three respects. It was not even deemed worthy of sacrifice and was handed down to a distant relative in a far off land.
What will be the fate of the GSP1600 ?
PS: I changed my batteries once in 15-16 years, back in 1996. |
