The part that bothers me the most is this comment statement ``Again we want the true and accurate will of the people to prevail.."
What BS!!! How stupid do you think we are??? All the Democrats want is to win, and all the Republicans want is to win - PERIOD.
But let's address this statement anyway. How do you define "The true and accurate will of the people" when only 2/3rds of them vote?
Therefore, we the best we can get is "the true and accurate will of the people" who voted.
And let's be honest here, a large portion of the people who voted were helped in doing so by both parties. And I am sure that the Republicans did not help democratic voters vote, and vice versa, so we are not really interested in the true and accurate will of the people now are we?
Next, how do you measure this "true and accurate will"? We have one official method, and it is not the pre-election surveys, 9 out of 10 of which had Bush ahead in national polls, and it is not the exit polls, which predicted Gore the winner of Florida, it is the actual election process and results.
The actual election results have been counted twice in Florida, and both times Bush has won, and both times by more than the one vote necessary to declare victory (although I do agree we need to wait for the overseas ballots before declaring this victory).
Every election process we have is imperfect, and there are many reasons that the process does not necessarily reflect the actual will of the people. But it does represent a fair process in that all citizens have the opportunity to vote, all are afforded time to do so, all have the opportuntity to check their ballot and even edit their ballot before submitting it. All citizens of the US have the same opportunity to make mistakes in their votes, and I am sure many do, not just the ones that have come forward in Palm County.
But this process by our own definition regardless of the results does represent the honest and true will of our people.
And by the way, if all votes count, and the DNC is really interested in getting the accurate will of the people, then why will NY not count the over 1,000,000 ballots from the military which would likely sway the popular vote to Bush? It is NY's policy not to count these votes unless they could change NY's results, which they can't. I find it very two faced that they tout as fact that Gore has won the popular vote without counting them all, and then act the way they do in Palm beach County. |
