to encourage polarization between the people and the parties, and is bringing the country closer to a constitutional confrontation, the same constitution one of them will have to swear to "defend and protect" in a couple of months.

This is the fundamental strength and difficulty of the United States. Why do you see it as being a bad thing? Our country was born from revolution, and the writers of the Constitution clearly intended to provide the citizenry the opportunity to challenge the government, and even overthrow it if necessary.
