Yes, what you say is true. However, if people lack the wit to read a ballot, I question whether or not they ought to participate in electing the president of the United States. They had every opportunity to review the ballot ahead of time. That they did not is their own fault, and they should pay the price, which, for those who voted for two candidates means having their vote voided. I suspect their lack of preparation is indicative of the careful attention they give to the entire electoral process.
I think what bothers me the most (as I pointed out in the link in my previous post) is the idea they make a mistake, but are not held accountable. Of course, it's not their fault, it's always someone else's responsbililty (eg. the ballot was "confusing").
Finally, if you try to make the world idiot proof, you will undoubtedly end up with a world full of idiots.

P.S. I've seen the ballot. I don't think it was well laid out, but it should not have been beyond anyone's intellectual capability who had any business being in the voting booth to begin with. Particularly since they had a chance to review the ballot ahead of time (I gather it was mailed to registered voters in FL).
