John, The message it would send is that Gore puts the system ahead of his personal interests. That he a politician with integrity. You are looking at this thing from a very limited viewpoint. Gore represents at least 49,108,420 voters in this election. Though you may not be one of them, please do not discount the interests of that huge group of people. If the only goal is short-term stability, Gore should back down. There are other principles to be considered, however.
