Marvin. do you know the significance of this challenge relative to Nokia and/or Interdigital?

I don't think so. This does not reprsent WCDMA asynchronous based data properties: the base system upon which Nokia is planning their WCDMA future. This does represent synchronous CDMA1x-3x; the applicability of which to WCDMA is questionable given Nokia's statements in regard to need to communicate with such or integrate 1X-3X into a WCDMA/GSM bimodal platform. Nokia's argument was that if they won here they could employ properties of 1X-3X into their WCDMA model without Qualcomm's sayso.

this is not a knock on Qualcomm. we're into this too. but ring up Nokia's site or telephone to discuss with them before committing them to a death sentance

i would like to see Qcom go back to $140 and IDCC ratchet up as well. this continued Qcom vs. IDCC thing is useless. it doesn't serve any purpose.

Qcom is concentrating primarily on 1X-3X. Lehman brothers comments about TDMA Operators considering 1X as opposed to Edge is questionable as to the full impact according to Chris Pearson at the UWCC. the UWCC states that nearly all TDMA goes to EDGE. Pearson states there might be one or two that move to 1X, but the transition of the larger carriers is already underway. Nokia leads in the GPRS realm as well. No one thought that Nokia would lead with GPRS. But, their solutions proved to be the most cost effective - EVEN THOUGH THEIR SOLUTIONS WERE TWO MONTHS later to market than Ericsson's. They stated during their CC that when they deliver a system, it is done right and at the right price; otherwise they don't deliver. They were emphatic about delivering the BEST WCDMA solution to the market. This would include data rich applications.

Because Nokia leads in the GPRS realm, they are approaching TDMA carriers regarding a transfer. TDMA transfer to GPRS is very cost effective. It obviously doesn't deliver the data that HDR delivers, but GPRS/EDGE costs less to implement and has plenty of available spectrum.

Do CDMA 1x-3X carriers have "plenty" of available spectrum? The Lehman report seems to take this for granted. Look into the matter if you're after knowledge as opposed to simple blather.

Why is that each time Qualcomm comes out with an announcement regarding 3g that you and others somehow come up with these associations regarding IDCC's soltuions that are not applicable?
