However, there are also "laws" that deal with the format of ballots and the methods by which elections whould be conducted. Your type only cares about the black letter of the law when it favors you.

The EC is similarly outdated. It was created in at a time when most Americans couldn't even read and had little of the benefits of formal education that we enjoy today.
Unlike sports where the convienince of having an immediate and unappealable decision by a referee is considered paramount, our legal system, thank God, has a system for grievances to be filed and decided upon. Your analogy is quite poor and doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of your complex legal system. Sports have very little in common with American jurisprudence as any person who has done more than read a few Tom Clancy novels will be happy to tell you.
