OT - election... Guess what...I got a few comments on this one. First the idea that the electoral system should be scrapped is crazy. If that was the case we would be recounting all over the country right now. You would have angry people complaining in the streets all over the nation. It would be terrible. Could you imagine if the popular vote came down to just a few thousand the problems we would have. Secondly. I say the vote should count. A democrat made the ballot to try to help the elderly. How many elderly were helped? Who knows? There were about 16,000 voters registered for the Reform party which is what Pat Buchanan was running under. The idea that over 3,000 votes went to Buchanan in Palm Beach is not that outrageous of an idea. I'm sure many made a mistake but that's what it was...a mistake. It's unfortunate that that happened...that it ended up deciding the election. Double count ballots happen everywhere. You can't help it. People screw up. Everyone approved the ballot...it was in the papers. No one complained until it hurt the democrats and made a difference. You can't have a revote. If there was going to be revote then it should be nation wide. The problem would be that Nader voters would change their minds most likely. It wouldn't be fair. I think that there was no intent to mislead. It was just .5% of people that screwed up. It ended up making a difference but that just too bad. I think the ballot was pretty clear. What can you do? I hope that Gore wins when they count all the over seas ballots. At least that way the ballot problems won't make the difference. I think these people protesting in the street should go home or back to work and give it a rest... I think Jesse Jackson should quit shaking his fist in the air and getting everyone worked up. I say we wait til the official final count is made and it should stand. Also, this hand counting will lead to more ballots being counted. I think if they are going to hand count in any county they need to do it in every county. Not just the ones where Gore is likely to pick up more votes. Bambs P.S. I am a Gore supported. I think that Bush is bad for the environment and I don't like loose gun laws. Or big tobacco being able to walk all over the little guy.
