This equates to a difference of about 10%. Add to that the fact that the P3 processor above is a BOXED processor, which the AMD isn't, and you get VERY similar numbers.

Relative motherboard pricing has A LOT to say on relative processor pricing. Simple as that.

(the prices in the example above are somewhat arbitrary, taken from a top Danish web-reseller and converted using a fairly random exchange rate - so look at the proportionalities, not the absolute numbers).
