John - Thanks for a very insightful post, but a couple points: the concept of the promise land for Israel which is a lot like the concept of eminent domain for the US Did you mean manifest destiny? And I believe the South Africans' conflicts were not only with native (or more accurately, aboriginal [thanks to David Gelertner for the distinction]) peoples, but with large populations of other group who migrated south after South Africa was colonized. Sorry for the intrusion, but I love history and thoroughly appreciate the fact that this is one of the most historically significant weeks in the history of this country.
