That's about where i'm at up here, looking for fiscal conservatives who don't threaten my social liberty - Message 14771009

The Alliance party here most closely approximates the Republican party ... well it could be argued that the PCs do, but they don't have a chance ... i was thinking of joining the Alliance in order to have a greater voice in pressing for consistency in liberty, but if they have anything like a loyalty clause forget it ... never was a joiner anyway, it's best to keep them on their toes.

Changing governments at reasonable intervals is a good thing too imho.
The big cry in the Revolución against the Porfiriato of 1876-1910 was 'Sufragio Efectivo, No Reelección', 'effective one-man one-vote suffrage, no reelection' ... there is a very famous interview by the american James Creelman of Díaz in 1908, in which he promises to not seek reelection again, a promise he broke less than two years later ... so it was written into the constitution that a presidente could serve only a single six-year term ... but of course the PRI did an end run around that, the outgoing presidente would pretty much appoint the new one, until Zedillo rose above the sordid traditions.

A change is as good as a rest, eh ... cheers
