Douglas - Lets get the facts straight. The first recount was required by Florida law, not some Democratic conspiracy to subvert the election. It has just been completed. Gee, surprise, surprise, the count changed, and the margin is so slim as to be meaningless. It seems perfectly reasonable to request a hand recount in certain counties where there are questions of irregularities to make sure that the votes were counted right.
Second - we can't "shut it down quickly" because, again legally they must wait for those remaining absentee ballots that have until Feb 17 to trickle in. Again, not Democrat subversion, but the law. Now we can speculate till the cows come home as to whether those votes are for G or for A, but until they get counted - no one knows, and declaring one candidate or the other the winner is, in fact, subverting the system and outside the law.
If the certified election count on the 17th shows Bush the clear winner and Gore is still contesting the election on the 20th, I'll join you with the tar and feathers.
I think I'd have a heart attack if one of you actually admitted that maybe if Bush was down by some 300 votes, the legal process of certifying the vote count was still in process, and there were voting irregularities alleged, that he wouldn't be asking for the exact same thing. Naw, never happen.
