Unfortunately for you, there is no defense for Bush's drinking and driving. He did it. He used poor judgement in doing it. The case was not dismissed. He assented to his crime by paying the fine.

He drank to the point that his driving was impaired enough to cause his being stopped. He drank and then, without regard to his potential endangerment to the rest of society, he operated a vehicle on public roads. This is self-centered narcissistic behavior. (Cheney thinks his DUI record is ok because he himself was arrested twice for the same thing. Booyahhh! What a team they make.)

Sadly until now, he has compounded his arrest by not being forthcoming about it. He has cheated the voting public of Texas and the country of his record in this regard until now. He has suggested that he didn't want to tell his daughters. (Interesting parallel to Clinton who didn't want to tell his family too isn't it?) I suppose you call that taking responsibility? What else hasn't he told his daughters and the American people do you suppose?

Unfortunately for your point, that Gore has done things too (as well as your irrelevant and apparently reflexive attempt to throw in the Clintons) it doesn't exactly wash with Bush's claim to be restoring integrity to the Presidency. Nor is this rising shrillness from GW and his camp that he has won the election and that Gore should concede for the good of the country adding to a perception that he is Presidential material. Hedging his bets of course, now he is asking for recounts in other states. Hypocrisy is what it is.

I'm left wondering if all men of integrity have really been driven from politics? Was Lieberman the only clean candidate in the national race this time?
