Al does not need to concede this weekend. That would be inappropriate. What he does need to do is issue a statement saying that while the design of the ballot in Palm Beach County was unfortunate, there is no remedy in the courts that is appropriate after the fact, and that once all the votes have been tallied he will honor the outcome.

I just left and wrote a message to the Democratic National Committee with that message. Since I am a Libertarian, and I did not vote for Gore, and I told the DNC as much, my message will probably not carry much weight. On the other hand I am on the list of Democratic contributors so I may carry a tiny amount of weight.

I hereby pledge that if one major party agrees to honor the outcome of the election once all the votes are tallied, and the other does not, I will hereby become an active member of that other party, and will vote their straight party ticket in the future. Furthermore I will support their candidates with both money, time, and in other ways in the future. The integrity of the electoral process is much more important than who is President the next 4 years.
