But I was told earlier that there was not enough time to take Carnahan's name off the ballot.

Now, if he can't be removed from the ballot and the governor can't appoint someone before the election since Ashcroft was the incumbent, then other than defaulting the election to Ashcroft, what else could have been done that wouldn't have been in violation of some qualification requirement.

I can't believe there isn't a vehicle in place for party people to name a replacement...especially if it is allegedly illegal to elect a man who was dead at the time of the election.
