"The biggest reason why a straight popular vote is a bad idea is because of the less populated states and the smaller towns and cities" In other words, the electoral has nothing to do with the actual election but may have something to do with the campaigns. "As for Presidential voting, the electoral college system combines the two concerns, and does so very gracefully, simply, and effectively" You say that because Goofy may "win" the election with less popular votes overall and a 300 vote margin in Florida, where over 19,000 deciding votes are sitting in a dumper.
