OT
There are TWO AP reports in the paper today which really got me PO'ed:
1. Democrats from WI. (State Sen Bob Jauch) and PA. (State Rep TJ Rooney) are publicly pressuring the Republican Electors in FLA to abandon their Bush votes and instead vote for Gore, regardless of the outcome of the next recounts.
2. The DNC paid telemarketing firm TeleQuest to make 5,000 calls throughout Palm Beach Co. on Tuesday, BEFORE the FLA polls closed, "alerting" voters about possible confusion with the ballots they cast and urging them to to contact local election officials. "Some voters have encountered a problem today with punch card ballots in Palm Beach County," the script for the call said. "If you have already voted and think you may have punched the wrong hole...you should return to the polls and request that election officials write down your name so that the problem can be fixed," the script said.
Within hours of the phone campaign, hundreds of Dem voters called election officials to complain.
In disgust, I sent the following email to Mr. Gore this AM:
<<Dear Mr. Vice President:
You have worked very hard to achieve the pinnacle in politics and are to be admired for this. However, pending the results of the Florida expatriate absentee ballots, this tax paying citizen believes that the time has come for you to concede the election for the following reasons:
1. The whole world is watching and the American people are too.
2. Demagoguery, legal maneuvering and grandstanding by either side will result only in bitterness, cynicism, and a weakened form government.
3. Two recounts have cast the Florida results to Bush’s favor. Should the absentee ballots maintain or increase the margin for Bush, the time for you to stop is NOW.
4. By persisting with legal challenges and public posturing at this time, your organization is jeopardizing the integrity of the imperfect, yet crucial, foundation to our democracy that is the Presidential election system.
5. The millions of Americans with investments in the stock market have suffered substantial economic losses this past week as a result of the uncertainties created by the Florida ballot complaints lodged by your campaign.
6. The events since election day make us appear weak and divided to our enemies overseas. 7. Various AP reports clearly link the origin of lawsuits and complaints to Democratic party activities, which began before Florida poll closings on election day. The American people know this and do not view these legal and public relations challenges (to the balloting) as representative of the will of the people.
Please do not allow your organization to disrespect the people any further. Do the right thing and concede NOW.
Very respectfully yours,
....>>
To all who read this post, if you agree with me please be so kind as to email it to the VP at:
vice.president@whitehouse.gov
and also forward my email to 5 friends, asking that they forward to 5 other friends (and email the VP demanding that he concede, of course), etc..
Maybe we can make an impact.
Thanks,
