Since performing such recounts only in precincts carried by Gore would be unfair, Mr. Bush should have responded by called for his own manual counts in the precincts he won, or if necessary the entire state.
Now they are setting aside those ballots that may have an indication of a mark, but not fully punctured, that will need to be defined as the "intent" and the "will" of the selectors; by other people. Argh. Then there's those "phantom ballots", which there were selections made, but, without a Presidential candidate selected at all. The Dem's, of course, are now asking: "Can you really honestly believe they didn't intend to vote for a President". This really is a sink hole, no matter what Bush did, or did not do. Like they said: "It's not the accuracy they are looking for, but rather the most recent results that count, for them". True, they could counter the favorable variant results with selected counties of there own, but he would have been damned-if-he-did that too. |
