Joe: Darn, you said a bunch of intelligent stuff in this last post of yours! Such middle-of-the-road candor is refreshing to read on this attack-dog board.

If Bush does assume the presidency, the chief question I have is: To what extent will the right wing of the Republican Party influence presidential policy, especially with Supreme Court appointments? And how beholden would GWB be to the right wing of the party?

If I had some assurance that GWB would be his "own man," that he wouldn't cave in to the Big Business interests of the Republican Party, or that he wouldn't cave in to Lott-DeLay-Armey faction in Congress, I'd concede Florida to him today.

But, in fact, the jury is still out on whether he will be his own man or indeed a puppet of the factions that elected him. I have no read on this.

This all may be moot anyway because whoever "wins" the election may, in a year's time, wish he had in fact "lost" the election, given how severely the country is divided.
