Rainbow Foods Selects NCR Electronic Shelf Labels To Enhance Pricing Accuracy for Its Shoppers
Retailer Installs Wireless NCR DecisioNet Solution
ATLANTA – NCR Corporation, a world leader in retail store automation solutions, today announced that Rainbow Foods, a corporate division of Fleming, has installed NCR’s DecisioNet electronic shelf labels (ESLs) in three supermarkets in the Minneapolis area.
Between 18,000 and 20,000 wireless labels have been installed in each store.
"At Rainbow Foods, we are committed to providing our customers with the most accurate prices and best customer service possible," said Randy Chambers, vice-president of Store Operations Services for Rainbow Foods. "We see ESLs as a valuable tool that will greatly enhance our ability to deliver on our promise to our customers. For example, the new labels will deliver 100 percent pricing accuracy for shoppers. We’re also using the new labels to communicate special pricing and offers available to our EasySave™ card holders."
"More and more retailers are turning to NCR’s DecisioNet solution to transform day-to-day interactions with shoppers into stronger one-on-one customer relationships," said Ron Southard, NCR vice president for Food Industry Solutions in the Americas. "Looking ahead, retailers can realize even greater potential benefits as they integrate their ESL systems with other strategic enterprise applications, including data warehouse solutions."
"This is the initial phase of our ESL program," Chambers added. "We expect to continue our rollout to more of our stores in 2000, based on the results of an extensive ROI study that will be conducted as part of this three-store pilot."
NCR DecisioNet uses patented wireless technology to transmit prices from the item price database used by a store’s point-of-sale system to digital information displays throughout the store. Moreover, NCR provides a complete solution, including business consulting, site survey, system design and implementation, and customer support services. The NCR solution has been installed by leading food and general merchandise chains in Europe and Latin America, as well as the United States.
With DecisioNet, price changes are easy. Retailers eliminate hours previously spent removing old paper labels from shelves and reapplying new ones. Store employees are freed for more productive duties such as providing added service and assistance to customers. Along with automating shelf pricing, DecisioNet’s electronic labels also can be used to convey promotional messages to shoppers, including special offers, frequent shopper items, nutritional information and much more. DecisioNet also is available with special software for European retailers who are making the transition to the new Euro currency.
