Jill, If the manual re count is not stopped, I think Gore will be in the lead by a significant margin. That explains why Bush is trying to get a halt to the manual counting---if they get it, it could only be for a few hours. Based upon what I saw on CNN, I would be willing to bet the judge won't stop the count. Then they will go to the the state court; anything to hold up the manual count before the deadline of Nov 14 (I don't know if this date is that significant). The one that worries the republicans is the county with a complete manual recount. If Gore gets a wide lead, the absentee votes won't help Bush.

I would also bet that Gore is about to stop supporting the legal actions by the voters against the process. Maybe they are waiting for some signs of significant gains before they announce their plans. That is why we are not getting their response just yet. They are working out a way to disassociate themselves completely from any court action. ie.. look like the good guys. Obviously, the Bush camp will seem like hypocrites.

I have a feeling that the large number of uncounted votes is very unusual--double voting and not voting at all on some of the ballots---this manual count will probably show a huge problem with computers that read the ballots.
I don't know if we can actually call things computers in this day and age.

The only thing holding up market is the uncertainty over the results. I think the market goes up no matter who wins as long as we get a winner. Once that final determination is made and one party concedes defear, we are going to get a HUGE rally. I think it would be big the first day but could turn into a 800 point gain on the Nasdaq within a week.
For that to happen, HWP and AMAT have to report good earnings this week. We could get a small bounce on the HWP an AMAT news but it may turn into a selling opportunity for some. The election is the only thing holding up the rally. There is no way it was Dell, IMHO. We have seen Dell blow up before.
