A friend of mine was having his hard drive make dying noises on him, he is starting an internet business from his home machine. I will probably help him out later tonight with transferring his data on to a larger driving using Norton Ghost. With the data on his machine being extremely critical for his business, I have recommended that he look towards a RAID solution (Promise FastTrak 100 and a pair of 45GB IBM Deskstar drives, insist on at least having ATA/100 and 7200rpm). The FastTrak 100 is on Microsoft's Hardware Compatability List for Win2k. Also looking to see what motherboards currently support onboard RAID with at least ATA/66 IDE spec, I think there are a few and maybe it will be almost as cost-effective to go with a new motherboard. Not really seriously considering SCSI until he "outgrows" IDE first.
