niceguy, re: your questions on FL voting

To add to Ted's responses,

(1) I have not seen any indications a butterfly ballot was used elsewhere in FL. Ironic that a design intended to aid older voters (larger font) may have been more confusing.

(2) Buchanan votes in Palm Beach County may have been higher than elsewhere for several reasons: (i) greater independent/reform party registration; (ii) a relative in the area. It would be interesting to know the distribution of the ballots with multiple presidential votes that were discarded. This county needs some voter education...

(3) Overseas ballots received after election day in 1996 were reportedly about 2600. Presumably some and perhaps most of these have arrived by now and possibly been counted. EDIT: IIRC, about 10,000 overseas ballots were sent and 5,000 received to date with another 2,500 or so expected. Of course, there appear to be some concerns that overseas ballots are not reaching voters in time or at all. Hopefully this problem will be investigated and corrected prior to the next election.
