Niceguy, Re: Your optimism
I never quite know whether to laugh or admire you for your kind of goofy optimism, which never seems to desert you. It makes me think of the following story:
A psychiatrist has two sons. One is eternally pessimistic, always seeing the potential for disappointment in everything, while the other is the eternal optimist, able to find a silver lining in any situation. The father decides he'll try to cheer up the sour son, so he buys a pony and parks it in the shed in back. He goes off to look for his pessimistic son, and when he finds him he tells the boy that if he goes and looks in the shed, he'll find a big surprise. The boy walks to the shed, looks in, sees a big pile of horse droppings, and walks away dejectedly. The father waits a bit, and then goes to the shed to see his son's reaction. He find the other boy there, whistling happily while he hastily shovels big clods of horse manure over his shoulder. The father asks him why he should be so happy, and the boy replies, "Well, with all this horsesh*t, there's gotta be a pony in here somewheres!" |
