It is a contradiction to defend union
membership on one hand, and demanding
to be treated as an individual on the
other hand. Unions typically represent
workers whose work forms a commodity,
in the sense that their skills are not
sufficiently special that they cannot
be replaced by other persons. Individuals
on the other hand attempt to establish
a market for their specific skills by
applying for jobs with several competing
employers and then taking the best offer.
If you want to be treated as an individual
in terms of your work skills, you should
immediately resign from the NEA.
