I would not get so wrapped around the axle with the Mustang being put on the shelf or the Mhz race being slowed. The continued development of the 760MP is probably pretty important. The only mistake that AMD made was issuing a Mhz target instead of giving guidance that they would release faster speeds as needed to maintain a performance advantage.

I hope the Mustang shelving has to do with lessons learned from the K6-3 mistake (too many unnecessary irons in the fire). Attention directed to the K6-3 would have probably been better spent on tweaking the K7 and working infrastructure problems.

I also suspect that someone has discovered another flaw or Intel window of vulnerability that the "hammers" are to exploit. Don't have any idea what might be in the works but AMD seems to be unusually tight-lipped about changes lately. The hammers appear to have gotten very important all of a sudden too.
