Fight fire with fire.

First of all Bush was rather quickly and rather inappropriately calling for Gore to concede and name himself the victor. That smoke and that fire was all Bush's.

Second of all the Federal law suit filed today looks little more than a bargaining chip by Bush. Baker said today they would drop the suit if Gore accepted the county certifications and abided by the report of absentees. Well, duh. What kind of offer was that? To me it is not clear that there will be any granting of an injunction to stop any recounts. The bell is rung on that and stopping that might possibly trigger a constitutional crisis - if you are of the school that thinks voiding the entire national election by throwing it into congress would not itself be a crisis and no longer just an uncommon outcome.

There would be not need to fight fire with fire if Bush himself in the very first instance hadn't just simply called for a complete hand count of the state of Florida. Saying he would abide by that result and then bided his time quietly in Texas.
