Almost all 50 states have the same (or similar) problems as those being scrutinized in Florida.

Some are arguably worse. If you damage your ballot in Florida (and most other states), you can walk out and tell the election officials and they will invalidate that one and give a new one.

In New York City, they use machines. If someone fails to press a button before pulling a lever, they cast an entire ballot for no one. Once the lever is pulled, there is no way to undo the ballot.
